Voyage Of The "Dawn Treader" - May 7, 2010

So, I discovered that they have decided to push the release date for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader to 2010.

How do I feel? Okay about it. In fact, I think it was neccessary in order to do THIS "chronicle" justice. It is definitely one of the most beautiful of the books, especially at the end.

In Voyage, we have a quest, several new characters (Drinian, the WHOLE population of Doorn, Ramandu, Coriarkin, Ramandu's daughter, the recovered Lords, the Dufflepuds, and some kid who tags along with Lucy and Edmund), we have, in the book, at least, COMPLETELY new locations, the whole nine yards. In addition, this is the longest of the Narnia books, and I was appalled at the BBC-TV version for compressing the story to two hours. I want to see a good version, and if it's made too fast, a good version just isn't going to happen.

While yes, I do want to see the new version, the new Eustace, the new ship, all of it, I want to be impressed and pleasantly surprised. With the first Narnia movie and The Bridge to Terabithia, Walden Media and Disney have proved they can make good movies. I don't want to see them cut themselves short.

Upon Re-Reading "Prince Caspian"

I finished re-reading Prince Caspian earlier today. Here, based on what we've seen, are my predictions on how it has been adapted for screen. (We tend to forget that post-production now lasts longer than production, aka. filming, on these movies...)

***POSSIBLE SPOILER***
*******WARNING!*******

Caspian's nurse will be cut.
I don't want it to happen, but her purpose in the story would get bogged down in a film. With them wanting to keep the appearance of characters balanced, Caspian's story will likely start with him under Dr. Cornelius' tutelage. (LEWIS NOTE: Caspian's relationship with Cornerlius was most likely based on Lewis' tutelage with Dr. Kirkpatrick.)

The Pevensies will meet Caspian before Miraz lays siege to Aslan's How.
Evidently he will be drawn to the How by a failed attempt to "capture" or "rescue" someone, said to be a dwarf. While I thought it would be Dr. Cornelius (which I still think is a good idea, Caspian going to save a friend), but it looks like it will be Trumpkin. Perhaps he is re-captured when Telmarines spot the the Pevensies on the way to the How? (The idea of an attack on Miraz's castle was probably based on Reepicheep's suggestion at Dancing Lawn.)

Anyways, there are my predictions for now.
